Job Title: Quality Engineer (salary)
Skill Level: 3 to 5 years as a Quality Engineer
Shift: Days (Monday through Friday)
Compensation: $80 to $85K
Location: La Porte, IN
Direct Hire and Reports into the Quality Manager


Job Purpose
This position assists in the planning, development, implementation, communication and maintenance of the company's quality management system; including its policies, documentation, data, and customer- specific requirements. The role oversees the organization's manufacturing and engineering processes by ensuring the proper use of tools, materials and procedures. In It monitors and tests product quality, ensures compliance with standards, identifies issues, and recommends solutions.



Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Ability to effectively use quality tools and techniques to determine compliance with specifications, trends, capabilities, and opportunities for continuous improvement; and the ability to demonstrate effective use of precision measuring tools and/or equipment.
  2. Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (especially Excel, ACCESS, PowerPoint), CRM, ERP systems.
  3. Knowledge of SPC and problem-solving tools
  4. ISO 9001:2015: Minimum of Internal Auditor certification.
  5. Excellent organization, communication, planning, telephone, and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to present to all levels of an organization.
  7. Able to work as a team member with a wide variety of people.
  8. Able to work under stress and solve problems quickly.
  • Preferred: Six sigma green/black belt and LEAN experience



Requirements

MUST HAVE:
  • Can independently lead and take ownership of continuous improvement projects by holding meetings, following up on actions and facilitating problem solving.
  • Can manage suppliers by assigning corrective action, increasing collaboration on specification development and can audit onsite as needed to drive change in performance.
  • Can lead customer negotiations in clarifying specifications, warranty remediation, and identify emerging trends in customer expectations.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related discipline is preferred.


Other Qualifications Required:
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant Quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prefer experience in the automotive or plastic manufacturing industries Familiar with plastics and engineering polymers.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be US citizen.

Responsibilities

Tasks / Essential Duties
  1. Performs required audits by completing necessary inspection procedures (product operation, certification and test procedures), using the appropriate documentation, and attesting to the quality of the product prior to shipment.
  2. Ensures and verifies accuracy and completeness of quality requirements, inspection sheets, engineering documents and sampling sheets used when inspecting parts or units.
  3. Uses basic precision measuring tools, workmanship standards, visual inspection and referencing specifications and blueprints to identify discrepancies. May include calibration activities. 
  4. Document deficiencies identified that do not meet the specifications and requirements. Provide a means to track and address repetitive issues.
  5. Troubleshoots daily issues and determines the root cause of the problem. Initiates proper Problem-Solving procedures to resolve the problem and involves the appropriate departments. 
  6. Assist Manufacturing and Design Engineering during pilot runs of materials to determine undocumented quality requirements and/or test procedures that should be added to the Quality Requirements. 
  7. Help maintain the customer complaint system including necessary investigations, meetings and customer communications/visits.
  8. Supports the preparation and execution of frequent internal audits and annual surveillance/re-certification audits according to ISO 9001.
  9. Participate and make recommendations for continuous improvement activities. 
  10. Initiate Corrective/Preventative Action notices as determined necessary to ensure quality processes and products. 
  11. Provides training to the appropriate people as required on product operation and/or important information that has been identified that requires a “need-to-know” status. 
  12. Continuous Improvement /Special Projects: Assist and participate when required and approved by the Quality Manager.
